A comprehensive review of plume source detection using unmanned vehicles for environmental sensing

Local meteorological conditions including wind speed and turbulence significantly influence the dispersion of pollutant plumes, introducing severe difficulties in predicting its trajectory, potential evacuation sites, ultimately containment efforts. Ongoing developments estimating rapid contaminant include combined use local data along with plume-source localization identification via autonomous data-driven mobile-sensing robotic/vehicular platforms. With a vast number available environmental-sensing mobile platforms, scenarios, source-finding algorithms, selection ideal configuration for source involves great deal opportunity alongside uncertainty. This paper aims to review significant unmanned ground-based sensing network configurations acquisition strategies commonly used task gaseous plume localization.
